Oh, no: Someone started GoFundMe to get Nathan Peterman to retire

The internet is a mean place. And it always has jokes.

Someone found the snarkiest way possible to blast Buffalo Bills quarterback Nathan Peterman: by  starting a GoFundMe with the title “Nathan Peterman Please Retire.” The photo on the page touts Peterman as “defensive player of the week.” That’s cruel.

Peterman has been ripped often for his play. The Bears scored two defensive touchdowns, including a Peterman pick-six, before the Bills even got on the board last week (hence the “defensive player of the year” wisecrack). Peterman, who famously threw five picks in the first half of his first start last year against the Chargers, has an impossibly low 32.5 career passer rating. George Chahrouri of Pro Football Focus noted that spiking the ball into the ground every play gives you a rating of 39.6.

It’s that bad. And now people are jokingly (kind of) raising funds for him to retire.

There were some funny names among the GoFundMe contributors

The goal of the GoFundMe was $1 million. And, 31 people over the first two days had actually contributed $182. Only $999,818 to go!

Among the best contributors (we’ll go ahead and assume the actual people weren’t giving $5 at a time for Peterman to retire): Flutie Flakes, Vontae Davis (the Bills cornerback who retired at halftime in Week 1), Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula, Bills coach Sean McDermott, and fellow Bills quarterbacks Derek Anderson and Josh Allen.

EJ Manuel gave $5 (again, probably not really Manuel …. well, maybe). Colin Kaepernick donated $10, but he’s always been quite charitable.

Never forget, the internet always has jokes.

Nathan Peterman could start again

It seems Peterman could get another start. Allen returned to practice but on a limited basis and the Bills won’t rush him back from an elbow injury. Anderson is still in the concussion protocol. Peterman hasn’t been good, but at least he’s upright.

It has been a rough year in Buffalo. Their offense has been called perhaps the worst ever, or at least in a long time. People have wondered if Peterman is the worst starting quarterback ever, and in terms of passer rating he is. Fans booed loudly after the Bears’ second defensive touchdown last week.

At least one Bills fan is still able to laugh about it. Though, his or her GoFundMe to get Peterman to retire might not really be that much of a joke.
