The full All-Star selections will be announced on Wednesday. Currently, we only know the captains and the coaches.
So what will the full Metropolitan Division team look like? Here’s a projection.
First, the rules. Each team consists of six forwards, three defensemen and two goalies and every team in the division must be represented by at least one player.
Based on that, here is a projection of what the Metropolitan team may look like:
Sebastian Aho, Carolina Hurricanes
Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins
Claude Giroux, Philadelphia Flyers
Taylor Hall, New Jersey Devils
Alex Ovechkin (captain), Washington Capitals
John Tavares, New York Islanders
Others considered: Seth Jones,Kris Letang, Zach Werenski
Sergei Bobrovsky, Columbus Blue Jackets
Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers
Others considered: Braden Holtby, Cory Schneider
MORE CAPITALS: OSHIE’S BIG REBOUND SHOT WAS AN INTENTIONAL ‘PASS’ TO ELLER
The first question for Caps fans will likely be what about Holtby? As he ranks second in the NHL in wins with 24, there certainly is a case to be made for the Caps’ netminder. But with Trotz and Ovechkin already in the fold, it seems unlikely they will get both Carlson and Holtby in as well and Carlson seems more likely to be included. He deserves to be an All-Star this season given the number of minutes he is playing plus the fact that he ranks second among all defensemen in points with 33. While Holtby’s win total is great, his save percentage and GAA are not as good as either Bobrovsky or Lundqvist’s numbers.
